Thank You for Attending Our April CHSC and CHEES Meeting!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for last night’s Capitol Hill School Council (CHSC) and Capitol Hill Elementary Enhancement Society (CHEES) meeting. We are so grateful for your time, energy, and thoughtful contributions.

It was wonderful to have such engaged discussions, especially around the exciting opportunities the Geodome offers our students, and the collaborative planning for the 2025-2026 school year. Your ideas, questions, and feedback are invaluable as we continue to strengthen and enrich the learning experience at Capitol Hill. Your voice truly matters, and we are so appreciative of the vibrant and supportive community we share. We look forward to continuing these important conversations and working together to make next year even better!

Dance Residency Begins!

We’ve had a fantastic start to our dance residency with Marcos and Nicole from Havana Cuban Dance Studio! Over the first two days, students have been having a blast learning new moves and exploring a variety of Latin dance styles. It’s been wonderful to see students stepping outside of their comfort zones, taking safe risks, and embracing the challenge with resilience and enthusiasm. We are excited to continue building on these skills over the next few weeks as we work toward our Celebration of Learning performances on May 9th!

OWL’s NEST Book Fair Coming to CHS!

We’re excited to remind families that CHS will be hosting an OWL’s NEST BOOK FAIR from May 5–9, 2025, as part of our school’s celebration of literacy and the joy of reading! Owl’s Nest Books is Calgary’s oldest independent bookstore, proudly serving readers since 1975. Known for their thoughtfully curated selection and strong ties to the community, Owl’s Nest has partnered with many local schools to bring high-quality, engaging books directly to students and families.

You can start supporting our book fair right now by shopping online at owlsnestbooks.com. Be sure to use the promo code CAPITOL at checkout to ensure your purchase supports our school. The code is active from now until May 16, giving families time to explore an even wider selection of titles and extend the impact of this fundraiser.

CHS to Host Federal Election Polling Station – April 28, 2025

We’d like to remind families that Capitol Hill School has been selected as a polling station for the upcoming federal election on Monday, April 28, 2025. Under the Canada Elections Act, schools are often used as voting locations to help ensure accessibility for all voters. Please note that this will be a regular school day for students - classes will continue as usual, and students are expected to attend. Safety measures will be in place to minimize disruption and ensure a smooth day for everyone.

Geodome Update – Spring 2025
The Geodome at Capitol Hill School has come back to life this year as an active learning space for students and staff. Our eco-leaders kicked things off with early spring planting, and classes have been using the space to explore everything from plant life cycles to sustainability in action.

We’ve also begun weaving in Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing—guided by community partners and educators—so students can connect more deeply with the land and their learning. It’s been exciting to see the space grow (literally and figuratively!) into a place where curiosity, care for the environment, and hands-on learning all come together.

School Council has also played an important role in supporting the Geodome’s revitalization. With a dedicated parent champion helping to guide next steps and long-term planning, the collaboration between families and staff continues to shape how the space is used and cared for. We’re excited to keep that partnership going as we look to the future.
