School in Session on Monday, April 6
A quick reminder that CBE schools are open and classes are in session for all students on Monday.
We also want to ensure families are aware that Adventurers Before and After Care, at both the Capitol Hill and Triwood locations, will be closed on Monday, April 6. Families who normally use Adventurers are asked to make alternative arrangements for that day. Students who typically attend Adventurers will need to be picked up at regular dismissal time, which is 3:16 PM, or 11:33 AM for AM Kindergarten students. Please also note that students should not be dropped off before 8:35 AM, when soft-entry supervision begins, as there will be no before-school care available. For families who use Summit Kids, we have confirmed that they will be open and operating as usual on Monday.
Picture Day – April 6
Picture Day will take place on Monday. Individual student photos and class photos will be taken throughout the day. Our spring photo day gives all students an opportunity to have an updated individual photo taken to reflect their growth over the course of the school year. It also provides a chance for students who joined CHS after fall photo day to have an individual school photo taken. Class photos for all groups will be taken as well.
Hip-Hop Dance Residency: April 6–10
From April 6 to 10, CHS will be welcoming SoundKreations for a week-long Hip-Hop dance residency. Throughout the week, students will take part in dance sessions during the school day as part of this learning experience. This is a great opportunity for students to build movement skills, try something new, and work together in a creative way. Please help your child come prepared each day with comfortable clothing and indoor shoes suitable for movement.
As shared previously, families will also be invited to come and watch their child demonstrate some of what they have been learning during the residency. More information about the time and details for that sharing opportunity will be sent home next week.
CHEES Coupon Book Fundraiser Wraps Up April 10
The Capitol Hill Elementary Enhancement Society (CHEES) Great Little Coupon Book fundraiser is now underway, and we thank families for the support already shown. Each book sells for $15, with a portion of the proceeds supporting student opportunities and school. Families are welcome to continue sharing the fundraiser within their networks and to return completed order forms and payment, by cash or cheque payable to CHEES, in one sealed envelope. The fundraiser runs until April 10.
K–4 Swimming Lesson Forms Sent Home
Students in Kindergarten to Grade 4 will be participating in swimming lessons at Sir Winston Churchill Pool from April 20 to 23. These sessions are part of our Physical Education & Wellness program and will focus on water safety and basic swimming skills through the City of Calgary’s Swim to Survive® program. Swimming lesson forms and a detailed schedule showing swim times for each grade were sent home on Thursday. Please return forms by Monday, April 6, or as soon as possible after that date.
We are also looking for parent volunteers to support supervision, especially in the change rooms and during transitions. We are particularly in need of male volunteers. If you are available to help and have current CBE volunteer clearance, please contact your child’s teacher.
Fun Lunch Volunteers Needed – Final Dates of the Year
As we head into the final stretch of the school year, we are looking for volunteers to help support our remaining Fun Lunch days, including our next one on April 16. This program is an important fundraiser for our Parent Council and helps provide unique and engaging opportunities for students throughout the year.
We rely on volunteers to help with setting up, receiving and checking orders, and delivering lunches to classrooms. If you can spare a short amount of time, we’d really appreciate your help. Volunteers arrive at 10:45 AM to verify orders and help ensure all lunches are delivered by 11:45 AM. Even helping once makes a big difference, and it’s a great way to connect with other families and be part of the school community.
If you’re available to help with any of the final five Fun Lunch dates, please sign up here:
