The big day is here - our Casino Fundraiser kicks off today and continues tomorrow! Some of you might even be reading this message right now from the casino - thank you for being there and showing up for our school and students.
We can’t say it enough: your support means the world to us. This fundraiser is critical for providing resources, programs, and opportunities that make a real difference in our kids’ lives. And it’s happening because of YOU.
Whether you’re volunteering today, tomorrow, or cheering us on from afar, know that you are deeply appreciated. Thank you for being the heart of this community and stepping up when it mattered most. Sincere gratitude from all the staff and students here at CHS!
The sign-up can still be accessed here, if you need to check your shift or need specific information.
CHS Winter Celebration on December 13
The holiday season is here, and we’re thrilled to share the details of our annual Winter Celebration! This exciting event will run from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, December 13, 2024, offering a day filled with connection, giving, and holiday cheer.
The Day’s Schedule
- 9:00 AM: Whole School Kick-off Assembly
We’ll begin with a celebration in the gym featuring presentations from each grade about their outreach projects, activities from our school’s Well-being Committee, and a performance by our talented Music Choir Ensemble. It’s the perfect way to set the tone for this special day of giving back! - Classroom Outreach Activities
Following the assembly, families are invited to visit their child’s classroom to join in on the meaningful outreach activities students are working on. Each grade is tackling a unique project to make a positive impact: - Kindergarten & Grade 1 – Stocking drive for seniors at the Kerby Centre
- Grade 2 – Making dog treats for Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation
- Grade 3 – Creating holiday greeting cards for various seniors’ centres
- Grade 4 – Crafting cards and friendship bracelets for Alberta Children’s Hospital
- Grade 5 – Writing cards for veterans; organizing and packing Veterans Food Bank of Alberta donations
- Grade 6 – Running a bottle drive to support AARCS (Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society
- Hot Chocolate & Student Buskers
Throughout the morning, classes will take turns visiting the hallways to enjoy hot chocolate and listen to our talented student buskers perform. It’s a cozy way to end the celebration and enjoy the festive atmosphere!

How to Donate: Drop off unexpired, non-perishable items at CHS during school hours.

CHS School Apparel Has Arrived!
We’re excited to share that Capitol Hill School’s Fall 2024-25 apparel has arrived! Orders were distributed to students today, so parents can expect their items to come home. From cozy hoodies to stylish t-shirts, our school community will soon be showing off its Capitol Hill pride in style.
A heartfelt thank you to all the families who participated in our Donate a Shirt Program. Your generosity ensures that every student has the opportunity to wear their school spirit proudly. Through this program, some of our less fortunate students will receive brand-new apparel, spreading kindness and connection across our school.
Thank you to everyone who supported this initiative – we can’t wait to see our school “swag” on full display!
Did You Know Our School Owns Its Own Curling Equipment?
This week, our gymnasium was filled with excitement as students learned, practiced, and played curling using our very own in-school curling equipment. After hosting the Rocks & Rings program in previous years, we can now offer this unique activity as part of our regular physical education programming.
Students have been learning curling terminology, perfecting their “draws” and “take-outs”, and working together to strategize their way to the “button”. It’s been great to see teamwork and focus in action as they explore a sport that holds a significant place in Canadian culture.
Curling has brought a new dynamic to our school’s physical education program, offering students a chance to try something fun, active, and Canadian – no ice required!
Reminder: Swimming Lesson Permission Forms Due
A friendly reminder that permission forms for Kindergarten to Grade 4 swimming lessons at Winston Churchill Pool were due today! If you haven’t had a chance to return them yet, please send them in as soon as possible so we can finalize plans for this exciting activity.
Swimming lessons will take place from January 13 to 16 as part of our Physical Education & Wellness program. We’re also looking for parent volunteers to assist with supervision and change rooms, especially male volunteers for the boys’ change room.
Thank you for your support in making this a fun and successful learning experience for our students!
