School Planning Presentation at School Council
A big thank you to everyone who joined us Wednesday night for our School Council and CHEES meeting, and for taking the time to be part of our School Planning conversation. School Planning is an important annual process that helps guide how we support student learning and well-being, and we make better decisions when we learn together and hear from our community. At the meeting, we shared information about our school development plan, budget, and school fees, and how these pieces connect to set priorities and support student success. We really appreciate the thoughtful questions and feedback from families. We’ll be sharing back insights and themes gathered at the meeting by the end of April.
Individual Program Plans (IPPs) - Mid-Year Review
Updated Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) for students requiring additional support have been sent home, or are coming home today. Parents and guardians are asked to review the learning targets and goals outlined in the IPP, sign the second review section on the final page to indicate their agreement, and return the signature pages to school. For convenience, families can also consent to receive future IPPs electronically via email. If there are any questions or you have not received a copy of the updated IPP, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
Report Cards Available in MyCBE Starting Feb. 24
Report cards for Kindergarten to Grade 9 students will be available online starting February 24, 2026 through MyCBE. Families can sign in to view report cards, teacher comments, attendance information, and more. For the best access (and the smoothest experience), we recommend logging in through the MyCBE portal rather than the PowerSchool App. Please note: after May 29, 2026, Semester 1 report cards will no longer be available for viewing, downloading, or printing. If you’d like to keep a copy for your records, be sure to save or print it before that date.
Need help getting started? MyCBE video tutorials are available, including tips for families with more than one child in CBE. If you’re having technical issues, you can also visit Technical Support for Students & Parents.
Pink Shirt Day – February 25
Capitol Hill School will be recognizing Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, February 25. Pink Shirt Day began in 2008 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, when two high school students took a stand for kindness after seeing a peer treated unfairly. That simple act of compassion quickly grew into a national and global movement that encourages schools and communities to stand together against bullying.
At CHS, Pink Shirt Day is one of the many ways we highlight the importance of kindness, inclusion, and respect. Students and staff are encouraged to wear pink as a visible show of support and to spark conversations about how we care for ourselves, care for others, and care for our place. While this day brings special attention to the message, promoting belonging and positive relationships is work we focus on every day in our classrooms and across our school community.
Thank you for helping us continue to build a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful school for all.
Student-Led Learning Conferences – Feb. 26 & 27
Student-Led Learning Conferences are an important opportunity for students to share their learning with their families. During these conferences, students take the lead by showing examples of their work, reflecting on their progress, and talking about what they are proud of and what they are working toward next. Teachers are present to support the process and answer questions, but the focus is on students explaining their own learning.
This year, Student-Led Learning Conferences will take place on February 26 (4:00 PM – 8:00 PM) and February 27 (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM). Conferences are scheduled using a shared, one-hour time slot format, with up to four families booked per hour (for example, 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM). Families are welcome to arrive at any point during their booked hour and are not required to remain in the classroom for the full time.
Because multiple families will be present in the space, student-led conferences are not intended for in-depth, private meetings with teachers. Families who have students on IPPs will have opportunities to connect separately with their child’s teacher for IPP reviews, as needed.
Bookings opened at 10:00 AM on February 20 and can be accessed through your MyCBE account. Additional information, including step-by-step booking instructions, is available on the MyCBE – School Conferences webpage.

Cold Weather Reminder
Please make sure students come dressed for the weather, as we continue to go outside for recess unless the temperature (including wind chill) drops below -20°C, in keeping with CBE guidelines. A warm winter coat, snow pants, hat, mitts/gloves, warm socks, and winter boots make a big difference, and layers help too. On extreme cold days, students will stay indoors for recess, and families should avoid dropping students off early. As always, if your child rides the bus, please ensure they are dressed warmly and not left unattended at stops, and have a back-up plan in case transportation is delayed. Thank you for helping keep everyone safe and warm this winter!
