Thank You for Joining Us for Student-Led Conferences

A sincere thank you to all the families who joined us for Student-Led Learning Conferences this week. These sessions are such a meaningful opportunity for students to take ownership of their learning - sharing work they’re proud of, reflecting on their growth, and setting goals for what comes next. It was wonderful to see students confidently leading the conversations and families engaging so thoughtfully in the process. Your partnership makes a real difference, and we truly appreciate the time you took to connect and celebrate your child’s learning alongside us.

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to our School Council for generously providing dinner for staff on Thursday during a very long conference day. The food, beverages, and treats were so appreciated and definitely helped keep everyone going strong - and the fact that there were even leftovers for lunch on Friday was a bonus! We are grateful for your ongoing support and care for our staff.

Child Care Tax Receipts

Child Care Tax Receipts for CBE lunch supervision from January 2025 to December 2025 are now available. To access your receipt, simply log in to your MyCBE account and navigate to Student Fees & Service Registrations > Receipts. Tax receipts will not be mailed out and will be available online only.

Pay Your School Fees through MyCBE

A friendly reminder to families to please log in to your MyCBE account and check for any outstanding school fees. Because fees are posted directly in MyCBE, they can sometimes be easy to miss. School fees help cover the actual cost of field trips, complementary courses, extracurricular activities, and special events. The CBE only charges fees to cover the cost of providing these experiences. For example, if a trip to the Calgary Zoo costs $20 for busing and admission, that cost is charged directly to families.

When fees go unpaid, it can significantly impact our ability to offer enriching opportunities for students. While School Council and CHEES generously support many initiatives through fundraising, they cannot cover all costs. If you have not already done so, please sign in to MyCBE to review and pay any outstanding fees. If your family is experiencing financial hardship, we encourage you to contact the main office. We are happy to work with you to find a solution so that all students can participate fully.

Grade 4 Alberta Education and Childcare Assurance Survey

This week, our Grade 4 students completed the Alberta Education and Childcare Assurance Survey during class time. The survey is conducted annually by Alberta Education and gathers feedback from students, parents/guardians, and teachers about school experiences, including learning engagement, welcoming and safe environments, and parent involvement in education.

We strongly encourage parents and legal guardians of Grade 4 students to complete the survey as well. Alberta Education previously sent families of Grade 4 students a unique, single-use access code to complete the survey online. All responses are confidential, and the feedback helps inform planning and continuous improvement at both the school and provincial level. The survey closes on March 6, 2026, so please take a few minutes to share your voice before the deadline.

Grade 5 & 6 Ski/Snowboard Lessons at WinSport (March 2–3)

Next week, students in Grades 5 and 6 will be heading to WinSport Canada Olympic Park for a two-day ski and snowboard program on Monday, March 2 and Tuesday, March 3, 2026. This experience gives students a great chance to build confidence, physical literacy, and safety skills while enjoying outdoor activity in a structured and supportive setting.

Students will participate in full-day lessons with certified instructors, including equipment rentals and lift access during instructional time. Students will be grouped by ability level and will learn on terrain that matches their comfort and skill level. To help the days go smoothly, students need to come prepared for full days outside in winter conditions. We are also looking for a few adult volunteers to assist with rental fitting, lunch supervision, and student support. If you are available and have current CBE Volunteer Clearance, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher. Finally, a quick reminder to ensure the fee for this experience has been paid, as students may not be able to participate if fees are outstanding.

Upcoming Human Sexuality Instruction (Grades 3–6)

As part of the Physical Education & Wellness (PE&W) curriculum, students in Grades 3–6 will soon begin lessons related to human sexuality. These concepts are taught in an age-appropriate, respectful, and developmentally appropriate way. Teachers follow the resources provided through teachingsexualhealth.ca, which are developed by Alberta Education and Alberta Health Services. We encourage families to explore the website’s parent portal to learn more about what students will be taught and to support conversations at home.

In accordance with Section 58.11 of the Education Act, Alberta schools must obtain written parental consent before providing instruction or materials that deal primarily and explicitly with human sexuality. Students will not participate in this portion of the curriculum without explicit consent. Consent forms will be sent home shortly, if they have not been already. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or the school office.
