Congratulations to Our Talent Show Performers

Congratulations to all of the students who performed in this year’s CHS Talent Show! It takes a great deal of courage to share a talent in front of others, and our performers did a wonderful job showing confidence, creativity, and skill. It was great to see students supporting one another and celebrating the many different talents within our school community.

A special thank you to Mrs. Whitehead for organizing and leading the event, and for helping students prepare and feel ready to perform. Thank you as well to the parents and families who came out to watch, cheer, and support their children.

Food Trucks & Families – Volunteers Needed for June 18

School Council’s Food Trucks & Families event is coming up on Thursday, June 18, from 3:30–5:30 PM, and parent volunteers are needed to help the event run smoothly. This is a School Council-led after-school community event, with School Council coordinating the food trucks and generously providing each student with $10 in food truck tickets, which will be handed out by classroom teachers on the day of the event.

Please note that school supervision is not provided. Regular dismissal will still occur at 3:16 PM, and students must attend the event with a parent, guardian, or supervising adult. The food trucks will be set up in the staff parking lot near the playground, and the parking lot will be closed to vehicle traffic. Food trucks will begin setting up around 3:00 PM, so please use extra caution around the school grounds during dismissal. The school will be available for washroom use and water bottle filling only.

If you are able to volunteer, please sign up here:

Sports & Activity Day – June 19

CHS Sports & Activity Day is coming up next Friday, June 19. This year’s theme is “Capitol Hill Classics: 75 Years of Fun,” connecting the event to our school’s 75th anniversary. Students will take part in a variety of classic Sports Day activities that focus on teamwork, school spirit, community, and fun.

A huge thank you to the volunteers who have already signed up to help. We are still looking for a few more parent volunteers with current CBE clearance to support activity stations. Activities will run in two station blocks from 9:45–10:30 AM and 10:30–11:15 AM. If you are available to help, please sign up here:

Grade 5 Mini Golf Fundraiser – June 24

Our Grade 5 students are excited to host a school-wide Mini Golf Fundraiser on Wednesday, June 24. As part of this project, Grade 5 students have been designing and building mini golf holes, bringing together creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, measurement, and financial literacy. Students from across the school will have the opportunity to visit the course with their class during the school day.

Students who would like to play can purchase tickets during pre-sales from June 15–19. Tickets are 25 cents each, with a maximum purchase of $2.00 per student, which provides 8 tickets. Tickets will be distributed to students by their classroom teacher on the day of the event. This is a student-only event during the school day, so families are not attending, but we appreciate your support from home.

All funds raised will support AARCS. Donations are also welcome to help ensure that all students who wish to participate are able to do so. Thank you for supporting our Grade 5 students and this fun year-end learning project!

Final June IPPs - Please Review & Return Signed Pages

Families of students who receive an IPP should have received, or will be receiving today, the final updated version of their child’s IPP for the 2025–26 school year. These documents do not include new goals, but rather provide end-of-year evaluations of progress, along with summary and transition information to support your child’s continued learning. If you do not receive your child’s final IPP, please reach out directly to their teacher.

We kindly ask families to review the final IPP carefully, sign the final pages under the “Year-End Review” section, and return them to school as soon as possible. Families are welcome to keep the rest of the IPP for their own records. If you have any questions or need clarification about your child’s IPP, please contact your child’s teacher.

Learning Commons Year-End Book Return – June 15

As we approach the end of the school year, we are collecting all books from the Learning Commons. All school library books should be returned by Monday, June 15, 2026.

Ms. Bielert has provided students with paper notices listing any Learning Commons books that are still currently signed out and need to be returned. Please check with your child, and in their backpack, to see if they have received one of these forms. If your child has books listed, please help them look at home, including in backpacks, bedrooms, bookshelves, vehicles, or other places books may have been tucked away.

As part of our year-end collection process, books not returned by Friday, June 19 will be considered lost, and a Lost Book replacement fee will be added to families’ MyCBE account. If you believe a book has been listed in error, please contact Ms. Bielert (blbielert@cbe.ab.ca), so we have time to review before fees are applied. Thank you for helping us return our Learning Commons collection so it is ready for students again in the fall.

Grade 6 Farewell Ceremony – June 23

CHS will be celebrating our Grade 6 students at their Farewell Ceremony on Tuesday, June 23, at 10:00 AM in the school gymnasium. This is an important milestone for our Grade 6 students as they reflect on their time at CHS and prepare for the transition to junior high.

Grade 6 families will receive more detailed information directly from classroom teachers. Following the ceremony, Grade 6 students and their families will have time for refreshments, photos, and visiting before families depart. In the afternoon, students will take part in a Grade 6 celebration activity at Confederation Park, walking there and back with staff supervision. We look forward to celebrating this special day with our Grade 6 students and families.

Lost & Found Reminder

As we get closer to the end of the school year, families are invited to come and check the Lost & Found for any missing items before summer break. We currently have a number of clothing items, water bottles, and other belongings waiting to be claimed. Students will also be taken by the Lost & Found with their teachers so they have an opportunity to check for items themselves.

The Lost & Found is located just past the main entrance, across from the staff room. Families are welcome to stop by during school hours, but please check in at the main office before heading down to look. Any items remaining in the Lost & Found after June 26 will be donated to local charities.

Last Chance to Apply for Yellow School Bus Service

Families who need yellow school bus service for the 2026–27 school year are reminded that this coming Sunday, June 14, 2026, is the deadline to apply through MyCBE to have students added to bus routes for the start of next school year.

Registrations will continue to be accepted after the deadline, but students will only be added to the closest existing bus stop with available space, and processing times will be delayed. In some cases, students registered after June 14 may not be able to ride the bus until mid-October. Confirmed routes will be posted in MyCBE in August.

Enrolment Intentions Form for 2026–27

With only two weeks left in the school year, CBE has asked schools to remind families once again to complete the Enrolment Intentions Form in SchoolEngage. This form helps support school planning and enrolment verification for the 2026–27 school year, and we still have a number of families who have not yet completed it.

The form is available through SchoolEngage in your MyCBE account and lets us know whether your child will be returning to Capitol Hill School, attending another CBE school, or attending school outside of the CBE next year. If you have not already done so, please complete the form as soon as possible. If you have questions or need support accessing the form, please contact the school office.

Reminder: Check and Pay Outstanding School Fees

As we begin wrapping up the year, we ask families to please log in to their MyCBE account and review any outstanding school fees, including fees connected to off-site activities and field trips. Taking care of these balances before the end of June helps us close out the year and continue supporting enriching learning opportunities for students.

If your family is experiencing financial difficulty or would like to discuss payment options, please contact Mrs. Gratto at 403-777-6160. We are happy to work with families and provide support where needed.
