Final Week Traffic Update
Beginning Monday, June 22, construction related to the Capitol Hill Dry Pond project will impact roads around the school, including parts of 21 Avenue NW and the intersection near 17 Street NW. This will affect regular bus access to the school.
For the final week of school, buses will need to use 18 Street NW in front of the school for pick-up and drop-off. To help keep students safe and ensure buses can access the school, we are asking families not to use 18 Street NW in front of the school for parking, stopping, drop-off, or pick-up during this time.
Families who drive to school are asked to use a nearby side street or 22 Avenue NW instead. We will have additional sandwich board signs along 18 Street NW as reminders, and staff will be outside to help direct traffic and keep the area clear for buses.
Final Week of School & Early Dismissal
Next week is the final week of the 2025–26 school year. Students will be dismissed for summer break on Friday, June 26, at 12:46 PM. All personal items, including indoor shoes, water bottles, clothing, and other belongings, will be sent home with students on Friday. If your family is heading out of town early or your child will not be attending the final days of school, please make sure you have informed your child’s teacher and the main office, and that any personal items have been collected before your child’s last day.
Any items left in the building after June 26 will be donated to charity, along with the remaining items in our Lost & Found. Thank you for helping us wrap up the year and send everything home before summer break.
Spirit Days for the Final Week of School
As we head into the final week of the 2025–26 school year, students and staff are invited to take part in a week of Spirit Days to celebrate our school community, recognize our Grade 6 students, and have a little fun together before summer break.
Each day will have a different theme, and students are welcome to participate in a way that feels comfortable for them. We look forward to seeing the creativity, school spirit, and smiles throughout the final week of school!
- Monday – CHS Swag / Colour Day
Wear your CHS clothing or school colours - green or blue - as we start the final week together. - Tuesday – Celebration Day
Help us celebrate our Grade 6 students as they prepare to transition to junior high. Students are invited to wear celebration clothing, such as a fancy party outfit, cultural clothing, or something bright and cheerful to wish our Grade 6 students the best of luck. - Wednesday – Golf / Sport Day
It’s charity mini golf day! Students can dress as a golfer or as a player of their favourite sport. - Thursday – Choose Your Own Adventure Day
Students can choose a spirit theme that suits them best. Pyjamas, costumes, wild hair, or dressing as a favourite celebrity or famous person are all welcome options. - Friday – Beach Day
We will celebrate the arrival of summer by dressing in summer clothing, such as shorts, sundresses, Hawaiian shirts, sandals, sun hats, or sunglasses. Let’s say goodbye to the school year in style and welcome summer break.
Grade 6 Farewell Ceremony – June 23
CHS will be celebrating our Grade 6 students at their Farewell Ceremony on Tuesday, June 23, at 10:00 AM in the school gymnasium. This is an important milestone for our Grade 6 students as they reflect on their time at CHS and prepare for the transition to junior high. Following the ceremony, Grade 6 students and their families will have time for refreshments, photos, and visiting before families depart. In the afternoon, students will take part in a Grade 6 celebration activity at Confederation Park, walking there and back with staff supervision. We look forward to celebrating this special day with our Grade 6 students and families.
Grade 5 Mini Golf Fundraiser – June 24
Our Grade 5 students are excited to host their school-wide Mini Golf Fundraiser next Wednesday, June 24. As part of this project, Grade 5 students have been designing and building mini golf holes, bringing together creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, measurement, and financial literacy. Students from across the school will have the opportunity to visit the course with their class during the school day.
Students were able to purchase tickets this past week, but if they forgot, Monday will be the final day tickets are available. Tickets are 25 cents each, with a maximum purchase of $2.00 per student, which provides 8 tickets. Tickets will be distributed by classroom teachers on the day of the event. This is a student-only event during the school day, so families will not be attending, but we appreciate your support from home.
All funds raised will support AARCS. Donations are also welcome to help ensure that all students who wish to participate are able to do so. Thank you for supporting our Grade 5 students and this fun year-end learning project.
Report Cards Available Online – June 25
Final report cards for Kindergarten to Grade 6 students will be available online beginning Thursday, June 25, 2026, through MyCBE. Families will be able to view, download, or print report cards from June 25 to July 31, 2026. Please note that after July 31, 2026, report cards will no longer be available to access in MyCBE, so families are encouraged to save or print a copy before that date if they would like one for their records.
Last Call: Lost & Found
This is a final reminder for families to check the Lost & Found before the end of the school year. We still have a number of clothing items, water bottles, and other belongings waiting to be claimed. Students will continue to have opportunities to check the Lost & Found with their teachers, but families are also welcome to stop by during school hours.
The Lost & Found is located just past the main entrance, across from the staff room. Please check in at the main office before heading down to look. Any items remaining after June 26 will be donated to local charities. Thank you for helping us return as many items as possible before summer break.
Staffing Updates for the 2026–27 School Year
As we look ahead to the 2026–27 school year, we would like to share a few staffing updates with our school community. First, we want to recognize and congratulate several staff members who will be moving on to new schools and opportunities next year:

Each of these staff members has made a meaningful contribution to Capitol Hill School through their care for students, commitment to learning, and involvement in our school community. We are grateful for the time, energy, and heart they have shared with CHS, and we wish them all the very best as they begin their next chapters.

Staffing changes are a natural part of each school year, and they always bring a mix of gratitude, goodbyes, welcomes, and new beginnings. While change can feel bittersweet, it is also part of the ongoing life of a school community. We are thankful for the people who have helped shape Capitol Hill School this year, and we look forward to the strengths, experiences, and relationships our staff team will continue to bring in 2026–27. Please join us in thanking those who are heading off on new adventures and welcoming the staff members who will be with us in the year ahead.
Thank You to School Council and CHEES
As we come to the end of the school year, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to all members of our School Council and CHEES - the Capitol Hill Elementary Enhancement Society - for their time, energy, and dedication throughout the 2025–26 school year.
School Council and CHEES play an important role in supporting our school community. Their work helps create opportunities for students, supports communication and connection with families, contributes to school events and fundraising, and strengthens the partnership between home and school. Much of this work happens quietly behind the scenes, but it makes a meaningful difference for our students, staff, and families. We are grateful to all current members for the many ways they have contributed this year, including their work with fundraising, fun lunches, volunteer coordination, the Geodome, casino planning, school events, and ongoing conversations that support Capitol Hill School.

We also want to recognize the thoughtful transition planning being provided by outgoing and current members. Amber Kirby will be helping Phoebe Gao as she transitions into the Treasurer role, and Maja Frew will be supporting Nicole Dowling as she transitions into the Casino Coordinator role. Lori Bain has also generously offered to guide the next person who steps into the Key Communicator role, as Council continues to look for someone interested in taking on this position. This kind of handover helps ensure continuity and stability for the year ahead.
A special thank you as well to those who are stepping away from roles or moving on after giving so much of their time to our school community. Your contributions have been deeply appreciated, and the positive impact of your work will continue to be felt at Capitol Hill School.

The Summer 2026 edition of Calgary’s Child Magazine is now available online. This free community resource includes local adventures, family-friendly events, creative boredom busters, parenting advice, and screen-free activity ideas to help families make the most of summer in and around Calgary.
This issue also includes the Fall Education & Program Planner Pull-Out, with information about preschools, after-school programs, tutoring, camps, and extracurricular activities for families planning ahead for the next school year.
