Food Trucks & Families – June 18

Food Trucks & Families, organized by School Council, will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 3:30–5:30 PM at Capitol Hill School. This is an after-school community event that begins after regular dismissal at 3:16 PM. Please note that school supervision is not provided, so students must attend with a parent, guardian, or supervising adult. Students who are not attending the event with an adult should be picked up as usual at dismissal.

School Council will be providing each student with $10 in food truck tickets, which will be handed out by classroom teachers on the day of the event. Food trucks will begin setting up around 3:00 PM, so families are asked to use extra caution around the school grounds during dismissal. The school will be available for washroom use and water bottle filling during the event, but will not be open for other activities.

Sports & Activity Day – June 19

CHS Sports & Activity Day will take place on Friday, June 19. This year’s theme is “Capitol Hill Classics: 75 Years of Fun,” connecting the event to our school’s 75th anniversary. Students will participate in a variety of classic Sports Day activities that highlight teamwork, school spirit, community, and fun across generations. Parent volunteers are needed to help the day run smoothly. Activities will run in two station blocks: 9:45–10:30 AM and 10:30–11:15 AM. Stations will include a mix of active and lower-movement activities, such as races, games, challenges, and classic Sports Day fun. Volunteers must have current CBE clearance. If you are available to help, please sign up using the link below:

Learning Commons Year-End Book Return

As we approach the end of the school year, we are beginning to collect all books from the Learning Commons. The week of June 8–12 will be the final book exchange week for the 2025–26 school year. After this week, students will no longer sign out new books, and all school library books should be returned by Monday, June 15, 2026. Please help your child look for any books at home, including in backpacks, bedrooms, bookshelves, vehicles or other places they may have been tucked away.

By June 17, our librarian, Ms. Bielert, will send families a report of any outstanding or overdue books. As part of our year-end collection process, books not returned by Friday, June 19 will be considered lost, and a Lost Book replacement fee will be added to families’ MyCBE account. If you believe a book has been listed in error, please contact the school by the end of the day on Thursday, June 18, so we have time to review before fees are applied. Thank you for helping us return our Learning Commons collection so it is ready for students again in the fall.

Final June IPPs Coming Home - Please Review & Return Signature Page

Final IPPs for the 2025–26 school year will be sent home next week, June 8–12, for students who receive additional support, if they have not come home already. These documents do not include new goals, but rather provide end-of-year evaluations of progress, along with summary and transition information to support your child’s continued learning.

We kindly ask families to review the IPP carefully and sign the “Final Review” section on the last page to indicate your acknowledgment of the year-end evaluations and summary information. Only this final signature page needs to be returned to the school. Families are welcome to keep the rest of the IPP for their own records. Please return the signed page by Monday, June 15.

If you have any questions or need clarification about your child’s IPP, please reach out directly to their teacher. Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.

CHS Student Talent Show – June 11

Our CHS Student Talent Show will take place on Thursday, June 11, at 1:30 PM. Organized by Ms. Whitehead, the talent show is an opportunity for students to share a variety of skills and interests with the school community. Students who are performing are reminded to bring any required items on the day of the show, such as instruments, sheet music, special clothing, or other equipment. If a performance requires a music track, such as for dance or drumming, students should email an MP3 copy of the track to Ms. Whitehead at ciwhitehead@cbe.ab.ca ahead of time so it can be prepared for the performance. We look forward to seeing students support one another and share their talents in a respectful and encouraging environment.

Thank You, Grade 1 Open Minds Volunteers

Over the past two weeks, our Grade 1 students had the opportunity to participate in the Open Minds Program at City Hall School, a hands-on, week-long learning experience connected to community, citizenship, and the world beyond the classroom. Mr. Evan’s and Mrs. Gosse’s classes were able to take part in this meaningful program because of the generous support of parent volunteers who gave their time, energy, and presence to help each day run smoothly.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the volunteers who supported our students throughout this experience. Off-site learning takes a great deal of organization and supervision, and we truly could not have offered this program without your help. We are also very grateful to School Council for providing the funding that made this unique and enriching opportunity possible for our students. Your support helps bring learning to life in ways that students will remember.

Capitol Hill Students Recognized at STEMC

This spring, students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 participated in the Speed Turn Elementary Math Contest (STEMC) for the second year in a row. This school-based contest gives students the opportunity to challenge themselves, apply their problem-solving skills, and engage with math in a different way alongside students from across Calgary.

We are proud of all CHS students who took part and represented our school so well. A special congratulations goes to Daniel F. (Grade 5), along with Clara G., Eason X., and Kublai W. (Grade 4), who received special recognition at the STEMC awards ceremony. Thank you as well to Ms. Moore for coordinating Capitol Hill’s participation and for attending the awards ceremony to support and celebrate our students.

Celebrating Indigenous Education in June at CHS

Capitol Hill School is proud to recognize National Indigenous History Month throughout June. During this month, students and staff will continue engaging in learning that honours Indigenous ways of being, belonging, doing, and knowing, while recognizing the richness and diversity of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit cultures. This work reflects our ongoing commitment to Truth and Reconciliation through respectful relationship-building, land-based learning, and creating ethical spaces in our classrooms where multiple perspectives can be valued and understood.

National Indigenous Peoples Day takes place across Canada on Sunday, June 21, 2026, which coincides with the summer solstice, a time of deep spiritual and cultural significance for many Indigenous communities. In Calgary, celebrations are also connected to Aboriginal Awareness Week, which runs from June 15–21, 2026. We encourage CHS families to learn more, take part in local opportunities where possible, and reflect on the importance of honouring Indigenous histories, languages, cultures, and contributions.

Try Something New at Sport Calgary’s “All Sport One Day”

We’re sharing an opportunity from Sport Calgary, a non-profit partner of the City of Calgary that supports community sport across the city. Their annual event, All Sport One Day, gives children and youth ages 6–17 the chance to try a new sport or physical activity for free. It’s a great way for kids to explore new interests, build confidence, stay active, and try something new without families having to commit to a full program.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at several locations across Calgary, including Trico Centre, Genesis Centre/Saddletowne, Ramsay, Vision Sport Centre, WinSport, Westside Recreation Centre, University of Calgary, Glenmore Athletic Park, MNP Sport Centre, and 7 Chiefs Sportsplex. Families can learn more, view the schedule, complete the participant waiver, and register at www.sportcalgary.ca/all-sport-one-day. Spots can fill quickly, so interested families are encouraged to check it out early.

Apply Now for Yellow School Bus Service

Families can now apply for yellow school bus service for the 2026–27 school year through their MyCBE account. To have students added to bus routes for the start of the next school year, families must apply by Sunday, June 14, 2026. Registrations will continue to be accepted after the deadline, but students will be added only to the closest existing bus stop with available space, and processing times will be delayed. In some cases, students registered after June 14 may not be able to ride the bus until mid-October. Confirmed routes will be posted in MyCBE in August.

Enrolment Intentions Form for 2026–27

CBE has asked schools to remind families again to complete the Enrolment Intentions Form in SchoolEngage. This form is an important part of school planning and enrolment verification for the 2026–27 school year, and a number of families have not yet completed it. If you have not already done so, please complete the form as soon as possible.

The form is available through SchoolEngage in your MyCBE account and lets us know whether your child will be returning to Capitol Hill School, attending another CBE school, or attending school outside of the CBE next year. If you have any questions or need support accessing the form, please contact the school office.

Reminder: Check and Pay Outstanding School Fees

As we near the end of the school year, we kindly ask all families to log in to their MyCBE account and check for any outstanding school fees, including those related to off-site activities and field trips. Unpaid fees directly impact our school’s ability to support students and provide enriching learning opportunities. If you’re experiencing financial difficulties or need to explore payment options, please don’t hesitate to contact Ms. Gratto at 403-777-6160 - we’re here to help.
