Spring Break – March 23-27
Spring Break begins next week. We wish all of our students and families a safe, restful, and enjoyable break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday, March 30.
2 Days Left to Order CHS Gear
There are only two days left to shop the Capitol Hill School Spring 2026 gear store! This is the last chance to order CHS spirit wear this school year, with a great selection of t-shirts, long sleeves, hoodies, jackets, and hats available in a variety of colours. The store closes on March 22 at 11:59 p.m., so be sure to get your order in soon. Please note that all items are custom made and final sale, with orders expected to arrive at the school in early May. CHEES Coupon Book Fundraiser
The Capitol Hill Elementary Enhancement Society (CHEES) has launched the Great Little Coupon Book fundraiser, and order forms along with sample coupons were sent home with students this week. Each book sells for $15, with a portion of the proceeds supporting student opportunities and enhancements at Capitol Hill School. Families are welcome to share the fundraiser within their networks and return completed order forms and payment, by cash or cheque payable to CHEES, in one sealed envelope once they are finished collecting orders.
Please note that students are not expected to go door to door. Instead, they are encouraged to share the fundraiser with trusted adults such as family members, friends, and others within their regular community. The fundraiser will run through April 10. Thank you for supporting CHEES.
Thank You for a Great Spring Fling Dance
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Spring Fling Dance on Thursday evening. It was a great event, with families dancing, enjoying pizza, connecting with one another, and celebrating the strong sense of community that makes Capitol Hill School such a special place.
A sincere thank you goes to School Council for organizing this event and making the evening possible. We are also very grateful to the many volunteers who took on important roles throughout the dance to help things run smoothly. Special thanks as well to those who stayed afterward to help tidy up. Your time, effort, and support were greatly appreciated, and the evening would not have been possible without you.
Hip-Hop Dance Residency: April 6-10
From April 6 to 10, Capitol Hill School will be welcoming SoundKreations for a week-long Hip-Hop dance residency. Throughout the week, students will take part in dance sessions during the school day as part of this learning experience. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to build movement skills, try something new, and work together in a creative way.
On April 10, we will also hold a daytime Celebration of Learning, where families will be invited to come and watch their child share some of what they have been learning during the residency. More information about the time and details will be shared closer to the date. Please help your child come prepared each day with comfortable clothing and indoor shoes suitable for movement.
K–4 Swimming Lessons Coming in April
Students in Kindergarten to Grade 4 will be participating in swimming lessons at Sir Winston Churchill Pool from April 20 to 23. These sessions are part of our Physical Education program and will focus on water safety and basic swimming skills through the City of Calgary’s Swim to Survive® program. Forms and a detailed schedule showing swim times for each grade will be sent home at the beginning of April.
We are also looking for parent volunteers to support supervision, especially in the change rooms and during transitions. We are in particular need of male volunteers. If you are available to help and have current CBE volunteer clearance, please contact your child’s teacher.
Spring Concert Save the Date – April 30
Please save the date for our upcoming Spring Concert on Thursday, April 30, 2026. This year, students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 will be sharing a selection of music they have been learning in class, including vocal and instrumental pieces. The concert will be a simple showcase of student learning and an opportunity for families to enjoy the progress students have made throughout the year.
More details, including performance times and logistics, will be shared closer to the date. We look forward to having families join us for this evening of music.
Professional Learning Day: Supporting Student Wellbeing
Today, CHS staff took part in a professional learning session led by CBE Inclusive Learning strategists. We focused on practical ways to support student wellbeing, strengthen relationships, and respond calmly and consistently when students are upset or having a difficult moment. Staff discussed how classroom routines, predictable expectations, and positive connections help students feel safe and ready to learn.
We also explored simple steps adults can use in the moment: helping students calm first, connecting with them, and then problem-solving together. Staff reflected on how we follow up after challenging situations so students can repair relationships and build skills for next time. Families can support this work by keeping routines as consistent as possible at home and by sharing helpful information with your child’s teacher if concerns arise.
