Hats On! for Mental Health Day Yoga Sessions – May 6
As part of Mental Health Week, Capitol Hill School will recognize Hats On! for Mental Health Day on Wednesday, May 6 with a special focus on movement, mindfulness, and well-being. Throughout the day, students will participate in yoga sessions in the gym, led by Bree from Fledge, through the Mind+Move program.
Classes will take part with their buddy classes, giving students across grades an opportunity to learn, move, and practise mindfulness together. The sessions will focus on active movement, calming strategies, and the connection between caring for our bodies and supporting our mental health.
We are excited to offer students this meaningful experience as part of our school-wide commitment to wellness. A big thank you to our School Council for generously funding this opportunity for our students. Families are encouraged to continue the conversation at home by talking with their children about Mental Health Week, mindfulness, and the many ways we can take care of ourselves and one another.
Community Drainage Improvements – Information Session
Families may be interested to know that the City of Calgary is continuing to move forward with the Community Drainage Improvements project, which includes work on and around the Capitol Hill School site. As shared previously, this project will involve the construction of a dry pond on the east field of our school, along with upgrades to nearby stormwater infrastructure. While this work will bring long-term benefits such as improved drainage, new sidewalks, and enhancements to the field space, it will also mean construction activity in and around the school community beginning in June 2026.
The City of Calgary is hosting a virtual information session on Wednesday, May 7 at 6:30 PM to share more details about the project, including construction timelines, expected impacts to the neighbourhood, and safety considerations. Families are encouraged to attend if they would like to learn more or ask questions directly to the project team. More information, including how to join the session, can be found here: www.calgary.ca/CapitolHillDrainage
Family Input for Class Placement and Transition | 2026-2027
As part of our planning for the upcoming school year, families are invited to complete our optional Family Input for Class Placement and Transition form. Each spring, our staff work together to create thoughtful, balanced classes, and this form is one way for families to share information that may support their child’s transition from this school year to next.
This may include information about peer dynamics, sibling considerations, social-emotional factors, or other placement-related circumstances. Please note that this is an opportunity to provide input rather than a request form. We are not able to accommodate specific teacher requests or guarantee placements. If you choose to complete the form, please submit one response per child by May 14.

Owl’s Nest Book Fair - May 11–14
We are excited to welcome the Owl’s Nest Book Fair to Capitol Hill School from May 11–14. The fair will be set up in the IDC (beside the library), and students will have the opportunity to visit and explore a wide selection of books during the school day.
Owl’s Nest Books is a local independent bookstore, and this book fair focuses on high-quality, thoughtfully selected books for young readers. In addition to promoting a love of reading, the book fair also supports our school, with a portion of proceeds going toward enhancing our library and literacy resources. More information about shopping times and details will be shared with families soon.
Volunteer Appreciation Tea – RSVP

Spring Concert – Many Voices, One Song
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Spring Concert, Many Voices, One Song. It was wonderful to see such a strong turnout from our community, and our students did an incredible job sharing their learning and musical talents with confidence and pride.
A very special thank you to Ms. Whitehead for the time, care, and dedication she put into working with students to bring the concert together. We are also grateful to our parent volunteers who supported various aspects of the event, and to our staff who stayed late to help make the evening a success. Most importantly, thank you to our students for their courage in stepping up and sharing their voices. It was a great evening of learning and celebration.
