Earth Rangers Inspires CHS Students
This week, we welcomed Earth Rangers to our school for a fun and engaging assembly focused on conservation. Students got to meet a ball python, a three-banded armadillo, and a cayman lizard, all part of an interactive presentation that helped explain the importance of protecting animals and their habitats. The live animals were definitely a highlight, and the presenters used them to spark conversations about the environment in a way that really connected with the students.
The Earth Rangers team shared simple, practical ways kids can make a difference, like cutting down on waste or learning more about local wildlife. The assembly tied in well with what students are learning in class and left many of them excited to do their part. It was a great way to bring conservation to life and show that even small actions can have a big impact.
CHSC & CHEES Year-End Thanks
Thank you to everyone who joined us for last night’s final in-person CHSC & CHEES meeting of the 2024–25 school year. It was a great evening of discussion, reflection, and community connection as we wrapped up a year of meaningful collaboration. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who attended meetings this year - whether you came to share your voice, offer ideas, ask questions, or simply listen in. Your presence helped shape thoughtful conversations on topics like the Geodome, school programming, community initiatives, and planning for next year.
While last night was our final in-person gathering, we’ll be holding one more virtual meeting in late June for our Annual General Meeting (AGM). We’ll be sending out more details and links closer to the date, so please stay tuned. Looking ahead, we’re excited to announce that the first CHSC & CHEES meeting of the 2025–26 school year will be held on September 17.
As always, everyone is welcome. There’s never any pressure to take on a formal role - council meetings are simply a welcoming forum to stay informed, share your thoughts, and help guide the incredible school community we all care so deeply about. Thank you again for being a part of this journey!
Combined Grade Planning – Community Feedback Survey
As discussed at both our April and May School Council meetings, our school is currently exploring the possibility of moving to a combined-grade classroom structure (e.g., Grade 1/2, 3/4, 5/6) for the 2025-26 school year. We know this is a significant shift, and we want to ensure families have the opportunity to share their perspectives, questions, and ideas as part of the decision-making process.
To help gauge the overall pulse of the community, we’ve created a short survey that will remain open until Monday evening. If you haven’t had a chance yet, we encourage you to take a few minutes to complete it and share your voice: https://forms.office.com/r/vhfqA2qt1S. For further information, please refer to the message that was sent to all families earlier today, with the subject line “Survey – Combined Grade Classrooms for 2025–26”.
See You at the Volunteer Appreciation Tea!
Thank you to everyone who RSVP’d for our upcoming Volunteer Appreciation Tea! We’re looking forward to welcoming you next Thursday, May 29 at 10:00 AM in the school gymnasium for a morning of treats, music, and celebration in your honour. If you volunteered this year but missed the RSVP deadline and would still like to attend, please email us at capitolhill@cbe.ab.ca to let us know - we’d love to have you join us!
Yeehaw! Stampede Pancake Breakfast Coming to CHS!
Giddy up, Capitol Hill School - something mighty exciting is cookin’! We’re wranglin’ up our very first Stampede Pancake Breakfast on the mornin’ of Tuesday, June 3, our school’s Stampede Spirit Day, and y’all are invited!
With the help of the fine folks from the Calgary Stampede Downtown Attractions Committee—and a few of our own trusty CHS staff - there’ll be pancakes hot off the griddle and delicious halal turkey sausages sizzlin’ up for the whole school community to enjoy. That’s right - students, families, staff, grandparents, cousins, and friends - we want to see all your smiling faces bright and early!
The flapjacks and fixin’s will be flowin’ from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM, just in time to fill your bellies before students head off to class (yep, it’s still a school day, partners!).
We reckon this will be the biggest, boldest kick-off to Stampede Spirit Day in CHS memory, so don’t miss out. Dust off those cowboy hats, pull on your plaid shirts, and stomp into school in your best boots if you’ve got ‘em - western gear is highly encouraged.
So saddle up and join us for a rootin’-tootin’ good time. We can’t wait to see y’all there. YAHOO!
Capitol Hill School Garden Clean-Up – Volunteers Needed!
Spring has sprung, and it’s time to give our school garden a fresh start! We’re inviting families to join us for the Capitol Hill School Garden Clean-Up on Saturday, May 31, from 9:00–11:00 AM.
We'll be tidying up the front of the school and the overgrown garden beds, making our outdoor spaces more welcoming for students and the community. No gardening experience is needed - just a willingness to help and maybe get a little dirt under your nails!
If you can spare an hour or two, we’d love to have you join us. It’s a great way to pitch in, connect with other families, and take pride in our school grounds. Sign up here: Garden Clean-Up Volunteer Link
Let’s dig in and make it beautiful together!
