Opposite Day - May 14
Our Grade 5 students are leading the school in Opposite Day on Thursday, May 14. Students are invited to take part in simple, fun ways, such as wearing something backwards or inside out, choosing mismatched socks, wearing opposite colours, or mixing summer and winter clothing. No costume or purchase is needed, and students can use items they already have at home.
Classes may also participate through small classroom activities, greetings, or challenges connected to the theme. As always, we will continue to keep our Pillars of Care in mind: Care for Self, Care for Others, and Care for our Place. Thanks to our Grade 5 students for helping lead this spirit day for the school!
Family Input for Class Placement and Transition – Closes May 14
As part of our planning for the upcoming school year, families are invited to complete our optional Family Input for Class Placement and Transition form. Each spring, our staff work together to create thoughtful, balanced classes, and this form is one way for families to share information that may support their child’s transition from this school year to next.
This may include information about peer dynamics, sibling considerations, social-emotional factors, or other placement-related circumstances. Please note that this is an opportunity to provide input rather than a request form. We are not able to accommodate specific teacher requests or guarantee placements. If you choose to complete the form, please submit one response per child by May 14.

Owl’s Nest Book Fair – May 11-14
We are looking forward to welcoming the Owl’s Nest Book Fair to Capitol Hill School from May 11–14. The fair will be setting up in the IDC, beside the library, on Monday, May 11, and students will have opportunities to visit and explore a wide selection of books with their classes on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Families are also welcome to stop by after dismissal on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 3:16 PM–4:00 PM. We hope this is a great opportunity for students and families to discover new books and support literacy at CHS.
Volunteer Appreciation Tea – RSVP by May 15
We are looking forward to our upcoming Volunteer Appreciation Tea on Friday, May 22 at 10:00 AM, where we will take time to recognize and thank the many volunteers who support our students and school throughout the year.
To help us prepare for the event, we ask that volunteers please complete the RSVP form linked below. Your response will help us plan for seating, refreshments, and ensure we are ready to welcome everyone comfortably. We hope you are able to join us as we celebrate and show our appreciation for all that you do to support Capitol Hill School.

Approved Volunteers Needed for Grade 1 Field Experience
Our Grade 1 classes are excited to participate in the Open Minds Program at City Hall School, a week-long field trip experience focused on hands-on learning and exploring our community. At this point, we do not yet have enough volunteers from our Grade 1 families to fully support the program, so we are reaching out to our wider CHS community for help.
If you are a parent, guardian, or approved volunteer from any grade level and you have current CBE volunteer clearance, we would be grateful for your support. Volunteers would help supervise and support students from 8:40 AM–3:10 PM Monday to Thursday, and until 12:30 PM on Friday. Even helping for a single day would make a big difference.
