Picture Retakes – Tuesday, November 19
If your child missed Picture Day or you’d like a retake, picture retakes are happening next week on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. This is a great opportunity to ensure your child’s school photo is just right! Please send your child to school prepared for retakes, and if you’re requesting a retake of a previously taken photo, remember to return the original photo package on the day of the retakes – it helps the photographer know what was wrong with the original!
Learning Conferences – November 28 & 29
We are excited to welcome families to our first round of Learning Conferences, a valuable opportunity to connect, discuss your child’s progress, and collaborate on learning goals. These conferences will take place on Thursday, November 28, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Friday, November 29, from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The booking system will open on Wednesday, November 22, at 10:00 AM, and close on Friday, November 29, at 8:00 AM. Time slots are 15 minutes per student; however, families of students supported by an Individualized Program Plan (IPP) are encouraged to arrange a 30-minute time slot by reaching out to their child’s teacher.
To schedule a conference, log in to your MyCBE account at MyCBE. If you don’t already have an account, you can create one by following the instructions on the MyCBE PowerSchool Support page. Once logged in, access the "My School Conferences" section, choose an available time slot that works for you, and confirm your details.
If you feel that a language interpreter would help facilitate your conversation with your child’s teacher, please reach out directly to the teacher to arrange this service. Interpretation services are available at no cost to families. We look forward to working together with you to support your child’s success and growth during this important time.
Grade 3 “Support Jasper” Initiative – Wednesday, November 20
Our Grade 3 students are stepping up to support Jasper after the wildfires this summer. To build empathy and awareness in students and connect with their work in Science and Global Citizenship, they’ve been busy making beaded bracelets with their older buddies to sell to our school community. The big day is Wednesday, November 20th, and all proceeds will go to the Jasper Community Team Society (JCTS).
We’re encouraging students to bring a $1.00 donation (or whatever they can) to buy a bracelet. If your child isn’t interested in a bracelet but would like to make a donation, that’s welcome too. To make sure everyone gets a chance, students can pick one bracelet each. One of our Grade 3 classes has even been writing letters to students at Jasper Elementary, showing their support and building a connection.
This project has been an inspiring way for our students to put kindness into action and make a real difference. Thank you in advance for supporting the Grade 3’s outreach project to help a local community in need.
CHS Movember Campaign Already Over $100!
We are now into the middle of our "Movember" campaign, and the CHS staff moustaches are really starting to look good! (Really, when doesn’t a moustache look good, right?) Astonishingly, we have raised more than $100 so far in service of bringing awareness to issues affecting men’s health.
This November, staff have thrown their hats – and razors – into the ring for "Movember," a campaign to raise awareness about men’s health. If you’ve noticed some new facial hair sprouting on your favourite teachers, don’t worry – it’s all part of the plan. Whether their moustaches are bold and bushy or struggling to fill in, these follicular feats are a fun way to get the conversation started on some serious health issues.
We couldn’t be prouder to join this worldwide initiative and show our support one moustache at a time. So, next time you spot a staff member sporting a fuzzy upper lip, give them a wink or a thumbs-up – they’re putting their faces on the line for a great cause. And if you’d like to lend your support, visit the CHS Movember webpage. Together, we can keep the energy high and make this Movember unforgettable!

We Need Your Help! Volunteer for the Casino Fundraiser
Capitol Hill School’s annual Casino Fundraiser is just around the corner, and we urgently need more parents to volunteer! Mark your calendars for December 6 and 7 at Ace Casino Airport, and consider lending a hand. The Giving Tree 2024: Share the Joy of the Season
Capitol Hill School is thrilled to continue the tradition of The Giving Tree in 2024, a heart-warming initiative to support families who may need a little extra help during the holiday season. This special program brings our school community together to spread kindness and generosity.
Through the online Giving Tree, families will have the opportunity to sign up to purchase a gift for a child or adult in need. Whether it’s a toy, book, clothing, or other thoughtful item, your contribution will make a meaningful difference. Each gift should be sent to the school unwrapped and labelled with the following information:
- Family number
- Boy/Girl
- Age
- Type of gift (e.g., toy or clothing)
Example: Family #4, Girl aged 5, Toy
When a gift is returned to the school, the student who brings it will have the honour of hanging an ornament on the physical Giving Tree in the school. These ornaments represent the collective generosity of our community and showcase how many gifts have been donated.
Stay tuned for more details on how to participate in this year’s Giving Tree. Together, we can make the holiday season brighter for everyone in our Capitol Hill School family. Thank you for your kindness and support!
