Save the Casino Fundraiser!

We need your help! Our upcoming Casino Fundraiser on December 6th and 7th at Ace Casino Airport is at risk. Without enough volunteers to fill critical positions, we face the devastating loss of up to $75,000 in funding for our school. These funds provide our students with vital programs, technology, and activities that enhance their education and opportunities.

This is a rallying cry. We need YOU—our extraordinary community of heroes—to step forward and save this event. If you can commit to just one shift, you can make all the difference for our school and our students. (Anyone can volunteer, not just parents, no police clearance required!) We still have spots left to fill and just days to do it. Sign up today: Casino Volunteer Sign-Up. (Deadline: November 30th) Time is running out, but with your help, we can come together and make this event a success. Be the hero our students need—one shift is all it takes. More details are available here.

Exciting News: Drama is Back at Capitol Hill!

We are thrilled to announce the return of the Drama Program, led by our acting assistant principal, Mr. Kwiatkowski (Mr. K), for all K-6 students! This program is set to enhance student well-being, foster creativity, and build critical skills like communication, empathy, and collaboration—all while supporting teachers with valuable time to address individual student needs.

The Drama Program will be structured like a residency, beginning with comfort-building sessions and foundational drama skills. The initial focus will be on theatre warm-ups, confidence-building games, and collaborative improv. Students will then transition into an exciting puppetry unit where they’ll learn puppetry fundamentals, create their puppets, and develop performances to share with the school community. We can’t wait to see what they’ll create! Stay tuned for performance details and updates.

Thank You for Attending the CHSC and CHEES Meeting

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us last night for the Capitol Hill School Council (CHSC) and Capitol Hill Elementary Enhancement Society (CHEES) meeting. We covered many important topics, including updates on school enrollment and staffing, academic progress, and exciting events like the upcoming Winter Celebration on December 13. We also reflected on meaningful actions like the renewed CBE Land Acknowledgement and shared updates on school residencies and community-outreach programs like The Giving Tree and the Veteran’s Food Bank drive. Thank you for contributing your time and ideas. We look forward to continuing these conversations at our next meeting on January 23.

Learning Conferences

Learning conferences will take place on Thursday, November 28, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Friday, November 29, from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The booking system is now open and can be accessed through your MyCBE account. Please see the news story on our school’s website for further information.

Digital Citizenship Plan and Admirable Use Policy

CHS is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and balanced use of technology through our Digital Citizenship Plan and Admirable Use Policy. The Digital Citizenship Plan focuses on empowering students to protect personal information, understand online safety, and create inclusive, respectful online communities. Students learn essential skills like creating and securing strong passwords, self-monitoring technology use, and identifying when breaks are necessary to maintain their well-being.

The Admirable Use Policy ensures that technology is used respectfully and inclusively. This involves teaching students to use digital tools like Google Workspace for Education appropriately, engage with diverse perspectives, and practice empathy in their interactions. The policy supports students in understanding the ethical implications of their digital actions and equips them to responsibly navigate online spaces while upholding a positive learning environment.

Please refer to the Digital Citizenship page of our school website for more information.

Winter is here! Cold Weather Reminders for Families

As we brace for a significant snowfall this weekend and the colder months ahead, we want to remind everyone about the importance of ensuring students are dressed appropriately for Calgary’s winter weather. Outdoor play and activities are a vital part of our school day, and students will continue to go outside for recess and physical activities unless temperatures drop below -20°C, in accordance with CBE's Outside Activities Guidelines for Cold Weather. To help your child stay warm and comfortable, we encourage layering their clothing with a moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating middle layer, and a waterproof, windproof outer layer. Essential accessories such as hats, mittens or gloves, scarves, and socks are necessary to protect against frostbite, especially on exposed extremities.

Footwear is equally important - please ensure children wear insulated, waterproof boots with good traction to navigate snowy and icy conditions safely. Clothing should be easy for children to manage independently, and all items should be clearly labeled with their names to avoid mix-ups. We appreciate your support in helping students stay warm, safe, and ready to enjoy their time outdoors during Calgary’s winter. Let’s work together to make this winter both safe and enjoyable for everyone! Check out the Cold Weather Days page on the school website for more information.
