Terry Fox Run 2025 – Thank You, CHS!
What an incredible day we had at Capitol Hill School for our Terry Fox School Run today! The weather was beautiful, and our students showed so much heart and energy as they ran to honor Terry’s legacy and raise funds for cancer research. Thanks to Ms. Moore & Ms. Adharsingh for organizing everything, and to their students for the great pep rally to kick off our run!
While we had to adjust our running route a little due to part of the field being fenced off, everything went smoothly, and the spirit of the event was felt in every step. Our students ran with determination, just like Terry did, and it was amazing to see so many smiles and high-fives throughout the morning.
We’re proud to share that so far we’ve raised over $800 for the Terry Fox Foundation, and donations are still coming in! If you’d like to contribute, you can still do so online here:
https://schools.terryfox.ca/CapitolHill
Thank you to all the families who joined us to cheer or run alongside their children. Your support makes a big difference and helps build the strong, caring community we’re proud of at CHS.
CHS SWAG School Apparel Store
The CHS Fall 2025 apparel store is now open and will stay open until October 10. This is a great chance to order custom CHS gear like t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, hats, and more for students and staff. Items will be delivered to the school about 4-5 weeks after the store closes. Don’t forget to check out the Donate a Shirt Program, which helps make sure every student has a chance to show their CHS pride. Have You Updated Your Demographic Verification Form?
If you haven’t already done so, please take a few minutes to complete the Demographic Verification Form in your SchoolEngage account. This form is required every school year and is important for a few key reasons:
- It ensures the school has accurate contact and emergency information for your child
- It’s used by Alberta Education to confirm student registration and funding
- It gives you a chance to update any changes to citizenship, address, or parent/guardian details
You can find SchoolEngage through your MyCBE account - the same place you go to pay fees, book conferences, and access report cards. If you need help getting into your account, visit the MyCBE Support Page for step-by-step instructions.
Digital Citizenship Plan & Admirable Use of Technology Policy (2025–26)
At Capitol Hill School, we believe that teaching students how to use technology responsibly is just as important as teaching reading, writing, and math. Our Digital Citizenship Plan helps students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 learn how to stay safe online, treat others with kindness, and use digital tools in thoughtful ways that support their learning. This year, our focus is on four key areas: keeping personal information private, being respectful in digital spaces, using technology to learn and create, and maintaining healthy habits with screen time. Students will explore these topics through classroom lessons, discussions, and hands-on learning using tools like Google Docs and Read&Write.
Alongside this, our Admirable Use of Technology Policy outlines clear expectations for how students use technology at school. We expect students to use devices for learning, treat equipment with care, and communicate kindly and respectfully online. Students are taught not to access unapproved websites, share personal information, or take and share photos without permission. As part of the Calgary Board of Education’s Away for the Day Policy, personal mobile devices must remain off and out of sight during the school day - preferably left at home.
Playground Expectations at CHS
At Capitol Hill, we believe our playground should be a place where students have fun, stay safe, and take care of each other. This year, our playground expectations are organized around our Pillars of Care: Care of Self, Care of Others, and Care of This Place. These guidelines help students make safe choices, show respect, and keep our play spaces welcoming for everyone.
Students are reminded to know their own safety limits, take turns, and use equipment the way it was meant to be used. We encourage them to watch out for others, play kindly, and report any problems to an adult. Caring for this place also means keeping our school grounds clean and treating nature with respect. Together, these expectations help create a positive playground environment where everyone can enjoy their time outdoors.

OurSCHOOL Student Survey – Grades 4, 5, and 6
Beginning in October, Capitol Hill School students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 will be participating in the OurSCHOOL Student Survey, an anonymous and voluntary online survey used across the CBE. This survey is an important opportunity for students to share their honest feedback about their school experience.
The survey gathers information on key areas such as sense of belonging, positive relationships, anxiety, feeling safe at school, life satisfaction, general health, goal-setting, self-regulation, well-being orientation, and cultural awareness of others. Grade 6 students will also respond to additional questions about self-esteem, depression, and cultural awareness of self. Demographic questions (e.g. age, gender, Indigenous or immigrant status, home language) are also included to help ensure results are representative and meaningful.
The feedback collected helps guide decisions at both the school and system levels and supports CBE’s commitment to prioritizing student voice and well-being. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact your child’s teacher.
Alien In-Line Skating Residency – October 1–14
Capitol Hill School will be hosting the Alien In-Line Skating residency from October 1 to 14. Students will take part in scheduled skating sessions led by experienced instructors, focusing on safety, skill development, and practice time.
Families are reminded that Acknowledgement of Risk and Consent Forms were sent home this week and must be returned by October 1 for students to participate. If you haven’t returned your form yet, please send it back as soon as possible.
Students are encouraged to bring their own helmet (with a safety certification sticker), but helmets will be provided if needed. Please ensure your child also brings socks, as they are required to wear with the skates and the school cannot provide extras.
Thank you to our generous School Council for funding this great student experience!
Spirit Day – CHS Proud! – Oct. 3
October 3 is CHS Proud Spirit Day! Students are encouraged to wear any Capitol Hill School gear or clothing with the CHS logo to show their school spirit. Whether it’s a hoodie, t-shirt, hat, or even a toque, let’s fill the halls with CHS pride and celebrate our school community together! If you don’t have any CHS-branded clothing, no worries, just wear blue or green!
