Welcome Back to Capitol Hill School!

The start of the 2024-2025 school year is just around the corner! Our classrooms are prepped, the hallways are polished, and we’re eagerly awaiting the return of our students. We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable summer. As we gear up for the new school year, we want to share some important information to ensure a smooth start.

First Day of School: Thursday, August 29

Our first day back is Thursday, August 29, with classes beginning at 8:30 AM. You’ll receive an email from your child(ren)’s homeroom teacher on the afternoon of August 28, introducing themselves and providing any last-minute details.

On the first day, please bring your child to the schoolyard, where they will join their grade group. Teachers will meet the students and organize them into their classrooms. While we understand that many parents may wish to accompany their child to the classroom, we kindly ask that you say your goodbyes in the schoolyard. This helps us manage the start of the day more smoothly, and we’ll have staff on hand to assist anyone who needs help navigating the building.

Kindergarten Staggered Entry

For our Kindergarten students, classes begin with staggered entry on August 29 and 30. Please refer to the specific dates provided to you regarding your child’s start date. Mrs. Dreyer will meet you at the east parking lot entrance by the playground at your designated time:

  • Group A: Thursday, Aug. 29 (9:00 AM - 10:15 AM)
  • Group B: Thursday, Aug. 29 (11:00 AM - 12:15 PM)
  • Group C: Friday, Aug. 30 (9:00 AM - 10:15 AM)
  • Group D: Friday, Aug. 30 (11:00 AM - 12:15 PM)

We’re looking forward to welcoming our new Kindergarten students!

What to Bring to School

As we get back into the school routine, please ensure your child comes prepared with a labeled water bottle, a healthy snack, lunch, and indoor shoes to be kept at school. Labeling all clothing and outdoor wear helps us manage lost items more effectively. Younger students may also benefit from having a spare change of clothes available.

Academic supplies like pencils and paper are provided by the school, so students don’t need to bring these items. For more detailed information on the school calendar, supplies, transportation, and more, please visit our Back to School page on the school website.

MyCBE/PowerSchool Account & Transportation

Your MyCBE/PowerSchool account will be a key tool throughout the year. If you haven’t signed up yet, we encourage you to do so. For students who are taking the bus, individual stop information will be available through your MyCBE / PowerSchool account. If you haven’t registered for transportation yet, please do so as soon as possible to avoid delays. More bussing information can be found by visiting CBE Busing and Transportation.

If your child will be staying at school for lunch, please make sure to register them for the noon supervision program via your MyCBE/PowerSchool account.

School & Office Hours

Here are our school hours:

  • Grades 1 – 6: Monday to Thursday, 8:30 AM – 3:10 PM; Fridays are early dismissal at 12:40 PM. Soft entry starts on September 3, with doors opening at 8:20 AM.

Student Code of Conduct

We are proud of our students at Capitol Hill and work together to foster a safe, welcoming, and caring environment. At CHS, students are guided by the three pillars of care: care for yourself, care for others, and care for this place. For more information on behaviour expectations and our discipline policies, please visit our Code of Conduct page on the school website.

Stay Connected

For the 2024-25 school year, our Capitol Hill School website will be your primary source of information. Please check back frequently for updates, as many news items will be shared there first. Classroom-specific information will still be shared via SchoolMessenger, along with other important school-wide announcements.

We look forward to seeing everyone back at school soon. Enjoy the remaining days of summer!

Take care,

Adam Eakins
