Photo Day: Monday, October 5
Lifetouch will be at Capitol Hill School on Monday, October 5 to take individual student photos during the school day. This photo day is for individual portraits only. Class photos will be taken separately in the spring.
Photo proofs and ordering information will be sent home a few weeks after photo day. Families looking for a few helpful reminders can check out Lifetouch’s 5 Tips for a Great School Picture Day.
Individualized Program Plans Coming Home October 9
Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) will be sent home on Friday, October 9 for students who require them. Parents and guardians are asked to review the plan, sign the signature page, and return that page to the school. The complete IPP is yours to keep for reference.
Families who would like future IPPs delivered by email should also sign and return the consent for electronic delivery page included with the plan.
Sock-tober: Step Up for Our Community
Our Kindergarten and Grade 1/2 students invite the whole school to celebrate Sock-tober on Wednesday, October 14. Students and staff are encouraged to wear their funniest, brightest, silliest, or most unusual socks. Pull them over your pants, pair them with sandals, or find another creative way to show them off!
Sock-tober is also an opportunity to support our wider community. From October 13 to November 10, CHS will collect donations for Inn from the Cold, which provides shelter and essential supports to families and individuals experiencing homelessness. Whether your family contributes one item or several, every donation helps students see how small actions can make a meaningful difference.
No School Monday, October 19
There will be no school for students on Monday, October 19, as Capitol Hill will be used as a polling station for Alberta’s Provincial Referendum. Please ensure your child does not come to school that day. Regular classes will resume on Tuesday, October 20.
Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser: Friday, October 23
Mark your calendars for our Mathnasium-sponsored Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser on Friday, October 23. Mathnasium has generously provided pumpkins for families to pick up after school in exchange for a donation. Funds raised will support opportunities for students at Capitol Hill School.
Mathnasium will be set up in the compound by the Geodome following dismissal at 12:46 PM. Stop by, choose a pumpkin, and help support our school community while getting ready for Halloween!
Save the Date: Halloween Dance
School Council is hosting a Halloween Dance on Thursday, October 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Students must attend with a parent or guardian and remain supervised throughout the evening, as this is not a drop-off event.
More information about the dance will be shared soon, but families are encouraged to save the date!
Casino Volunteers Still Needed
Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to help with CHEES’s Casino Fundraiser on October 28 and 29 at ACE Casino Airport. Several positions remain open across both days, and a full volunteer team is needed for the casino to proceed successfully.
This is our school community’s largest fundraising opportunity. Our last casino raised $82,956.03, helping fund artist residencies, field-trip transportation, books, technology, inline skating, and sports and art equipment. No previous experience is required, and training is provided. Daytime, evening, and late-night shifts are available.

Healthy Hunger Fun Lunches
Healthy Hunger Fun Lunches are offered throughout the school year as an optional special lunch for students. These lunches are organized by School Council and CHEES and also help raise funds to support opportunities and resources at Capitol Hill School.
Families wishing to participate can visit Healthy Hunger to create or access an account, add their child and school, view upcoming lunch dates and vendors, and place an order. All orders must be submitted and paid for before the deadline listed for each lunch. Please watch these dates carefully, as late orders cannot be accommodated.
