Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to all our families! No matter how your family chooses to observe, celebrate, or acknowledge the holiday, we hope you enjoy a restful weekend and meaningful time with those closest to you.
At Capitol Hill School, we are grateful for the dedication of our staff, the curiosity and enthusiasm of our students, and the care and support of everyone in our school community. As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, October 12. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday!
Gaga Ball Pit Open for Fun!
Our new Gaga Ball pit is officially open, and students are already having a blast with it! We are continuing to develop schedules, guidelines, and expectations for safe and respectful play so that students across the school can enjoy this exciting new addition to our playground and outdoor physical education space.
A big thank you to our School Council for helping make this project possible through their funding and support, and especially to last year’s Grade 6 students, who envisioned the Gaga Ball pit as part of their legacy at Capitol Hill. Although they have now moved on to junior high, their contribution will continue to be enjoyed by students for years to come.
We are very grateful for the way they helped make our school and community an even better place!
Individualized Program Plans Sent Home Today
Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) are being sent home today, Friday, October 9, for students who require them. Please check your child’s backpack for their IPP. If you were expecting one and did not receive it, please contact your child’s teacher.
Parents and guardians are asked to review the plan, sign the signature page, and return that page to the school. The complete IPP is yours to keep for reference. Families who would like future IPPs delivered by email should also sign and return the included consent for electronic delivery.
Urgent: 22 Casino Volunteers Still Needed!
CHEES urgently needs 22 additional volunteers for our Casino Fundraiser on October 28 and 29 at ACE Casino Airport. Several critical positions remain unfilled across both days. Without enough volunteers, the casino cannot operate successfully, putting our school’s largest fundraising opportunity at risk.
Our last casino raised $82,956.03 for Capitol Hill students. This funding supports artist residencies, field-trip transportation, books, technology, inline skating, and sports and art equipment. Losing this opportunity would have a significant impact on the experiences and resources we can provide.
No previous casino experience is required. Training and clear instructions are provided, with daytime, evening, and late-night shifts available. If you are able to help, please do not wait or assume someone else will fill the remaining spots.

Head Lice Awareness
We have received reports of a small number of head lice cases at Capitol Hill School. There is no need for alarm, but we want to be proactive and help limit further spread. Families are asked to check their child’s hair carefully and regularly over the next few weeks. Head lice can affect anyone, are not caused by poor hygiene, and do not spread illness.
If you find live head lice, please follow the guidance from AHS and notify the school. The guide includes information about checking, treatment, and preventing further spread. Families can also review Alberta Health Services’ online information, speak with a pharmacist, or call Health Link at 811.
Sock-tober: Step Up for Our Community
Our Kindergarten and Grade 1/2 students invite the whole school to celebrate Sock-tober on Wednesday, October 14. Students and staff are encouraged to wear their funniest, brightest, silliest, or most unusual socks. Pull them over your pants, pair them with sandals, or find another creative way to show them off!
Sock-tober is also an opportunity to support our wider community. From October 13 to November 10, CHS will collect donations for Inn from the Cold, which provides shelter and essential supports to families and individuals experiencing homelessness. Whether your family contributes one item or several, every donation helps students see how small actions can make a meaningful difference.
Non-Instructional Day: Monday, October 19
Monday, October 19, is a non-instructional day for students, and there will be no classes at Capitol Hill School. The school will be used as a polling station for Alberta’s Provincial Referendum throughout the day. Please ensure your child does not come to school. Regular classes will resume on Tuesday, October 20.
Pumpkin Patch Math Fundraiser: Friday, October 23
Mark your calendars for our Mathnasium-sponsored Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser on Friday, October 23. Mathnasium has generously provided pumpkins for families to pick up after school in exchange for a donation, with a suggested amount of $5 per pumpkin. All money raised will come directly back to Capitol Hill School to purchase math-related materials and resources for students.
Mathnasium will be set up in the compound by the Geodome following dismissal at 12:46 p.m. Stop by, choose a pumpkin, support math learning at Capitol Hill, and get ready for Halloween!
