Reminder | No School Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Friday, September 25, is our first non-instructional day of the school year. There will be no classes for students, so please ensure your child does not come to school.

While students are away, teachers will be working on Individual Program Plans (IPPs) and participating in professional learning with Jenn Doeve from Yellow Steps as we prepare for our upcoming school-wide residency.

Truth and Reconciliation Commitment & Orange Shirt Day

Capitol Hill School’s Truth and Reconciliation Commitment for 2026–27 outlines how we will continue supporting meaningful learning and action throughout the year. Our work will focus on strengthening connections to the land, learning with and from Indigenous perspectives, and helping students understand their role in reconciliation.

We will recognize Orange Shirt Day on Tuesday, September 29. Students and staff are encouraged to wear orange as a reminder that every child matters.

There will be no school on Wednesday, September 30, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Families who would like to continue learning together may wish to attend one of the community events taking place across Calgary.

Swag Store Closes Monday Night

The CHS Fall 2026 Swag Store will remain open until Monday, September 28, at 11:59 PM. The store offers a variety of school apparel and accessories for students, families, and staff, including youth and adult T-shirts, hoodies, jackets, hats, and more.

All items are custom made and cannot be returned, so please review sizing and colour selections carefully before placing your order. Orders are expected to arrive at the school in early November.

Rescheduled Fire Drill | Sept. 28

We will hold our rescheduled fire drill on Monday, September 28, at approximately 1:30 PM. To help the drill proceed safely and without interruption, please avoid dropping off or picking up students around that time. If you arrive while the drill is underway, please wait outside until students and staff have safely returned to the building and the drill has been completed. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Individual Photo Day | Oct. 5

Lifetouch will be at Capitol Hill School on Monday, October 5, for individual student photos, which will be taken during the school day. Please note that this photo day is for individual student photos only. Class photos will be taken separately in the spring. Casino Volunteers Still Needed

Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to help with CHEES’s Casino Fundraiser on October 28 and 29 at ACE Casino Airport. We genuinely appreciate your commitment and support. Several volunteer positions still need to be filled across both days, and the casino cannot proceed successfully without a full team.

This is our school community’s largest fundraising opportunity. Our last casino raised $82,956.03, helping fund student experiences and resources such as artist residencies, inline skating, field-trip transportation, books, technology, and sports and art equipment.

No previous casino experience is required. Training and instructions are provided, and daytime, evening, and late-night shifts are available. If you can give a few hours of your time, please consider helping us fill the remaining positions.

Healthy Hunger Fun Lunches

Our first Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch of the year was held today and was a great success. Students enjoyed lunch from Subway, and we appreciate the work of School Council and CHEES, along with the volunteers who helped organize and distribute the orders.

Fun Lunches provide students with an optional special lunch while also raising funds to support opportunities and resources at Capitol Hill. Additional dates and vendors will continue to be added throughout the year. Once a lunch appears in your family’s Healthy Hunger account, orders can be placed and paid for in advance. Please pay close attention to each ordering deadline, as late orders cannot be accommodated.

Capitol Hill is Going for Platinum

Last year, Capitol Hill School earned Gold certification through EcoSchools Canada, a national program that recognizes environmental learning, student leadership, and practical sustainability efforts in K-12 schools. This achievement reflected the work of our students and staff through initiatives connected to gardening, waste reduction, school-ground stewardship, and learning about the land around us.

This year, we are aiming for Platinum, the highest level of EcoSchools certification. Our EcoTeam will help review our current practices, plan environmental actions, and document the impact of our work throughout the year. Initiatives such as the Geodome, Yellow Steps place-based learning, exploration of the new dry pond (once completed), and continued attention to waste and conservation will all contribute. We look forward to sharing our progress and finding meaningful ways for students and families to participate!
