Water Update
Dear Capitol Hill School Families,
We wanted to update you on the ongoing water outage at the school. We have been informed that the school's water service is expected to be restored over the weekend.
The City of Calgary is currently working with the CBE plumber to connect the school to a nearby fire hydrant. Once the temporary waterline is in place, the school's water system will need to be flushed, and the water will undergo testing to ensure its safety. After this, potable drinking water will be available in the school.
We are hopeful that when we return to classes on Monday, February 24, we will have normal access to drinking water in the building. In the meantime, all students and staff are safe, and classes are continuing as scheduled.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school at 403-777-6160.
Our next Fun Lunch is on March 6, and we need your help to make it a success! Volunteers are essential for sorting and distributing pre-ordered lunches, ensuring every student receives their meal on time. If you can spare a short amount of time, we’d love your support—arrive at 10:45 AM to verify orders and help distribute lunches to classrooms by 11:20 AM. This is a great way to meet other parents, get involved in the school community, and make a meaningful contribution. Even if you can only help once, your time and effort are greatly appreciated! Sugar Shack
On the afternoon of March 10, in conjunction with Branton School, Capitol Hill will host the sugar shack in the afternoon. The event staff will set up tables with snow, upon which they will pour hot maple syrup for students to roll tire d’érable (maple taffies on a popsicle stick). There is also usually (weather dependent) an interpreter, music, opportunities for photos, and activities such as a sack race, a 3-person plank race, and a tug of war. Feel free to join us in the Capitol Hill school field.
Pink Shirt Day
The grade one classes are hosting our Pink Shirt Day assembly this Wednesday February 26, 2025 at 9:00 am. Students are looking at the anti-bullying campaign through a broader context using the text of We Are Kind by Monique Grey Smith and our Pillars of Care. We invite all families to come and join us for our presentation and song about kindness.
Wet felting
On Thursday here at the school, the grade 2’s experienced the magical world of wet felting under the guidance of the lovely Leah Kathleen from ArtFelt Studio. The children were captivated as Leah introduced them to the art of transforming soft wool fibres into beautiful felt creations. With vibrant colours and textures at their fingertips, the students eagerly rolled, pressed, and shaped their wool into unique pieces of art. They created beautiful lighthouses the likes that you might see in the Acadian communities they have been discovering in Social Studies.
